Worried about your little one falling out of bed?
When my kids transition from the crib to their big beds, I worry about them rolling out of bed at night. We have hardwood floors, and I hated the thought of them crashing to the floor in their sleep.
It has happened! more than once, even.
Some of my kids have made the dreaded “thud” in the night, despite my efforts of throwing extra pillows, and stuffed animals around the floor, where I would carefully calculate the exact landing spot. Every night, I would go through the hassle of building the perfect safety net–you got it, I am “that” mom. I haven’t decided whether that’s good, or bad. 🙂
I know you’re probably wondering, why in the world I didn’t just put railing on the bed? Well, I hate fighting the railing when I make the beds! If you feel the same, I have something to share with you…
I picked up one small, egg-crate bedding topper, (they’re inexpensive). I used this, because of it’s material– it does not slip or move, at all. So, hassle-free! I cut it in half, there is plenty for both sides of the bed.
I rolled it long-ways, with another blanket inside of it, to fatten it up a bit. You can secure the roll with large, thick rubber- bands on each end, or the middle, but it stays in the roll just fine, on it’s own.
I was very happy with the result, and it works splendidly. I have used these rolls for a year, and no falls! I placed the rolls under the mattress cover–the sheets, and comforter fit right over the rolls. It is not a nuisance when you change the sheets, either. If you don’t mind the slight lumps to the side of the bed — try this.
I have also found, that my youngest really likes it for the comfort of it being, like, a body-pillow, and she cuddles up to it.
This has worked really well for me, and gives me peace of mind at night–I am so glad I did this. I hope you, or someone you know can benefit from it, as well!
